Director of Community (Welfare) Services - London, United Kingdom,
Established in 1954 to meet the needs of the Irish in London, the London Irish Centre charity is a diverse and multicultural organisation with a broad programme of activity. It has an annual income of in excess of £1.5 million, a large proportion of which is comes from the Irish government to support their diaspora. A core function of the charity is to continue to serve those within the Irish community who may be vulnerable, socially isolated or unfamiliar with systems and processes in the UK.
In addition, the Camden Centre is a vibrant entertainment venue which welcomes more than 60,000 visitors a year for conferences, weddings, functions, meetings and festivals. What's more, working closely with our patrons Dermot O' Leary and Ed Sheeran, we have ambitious plans to develop into a truly world-class resource which promotes Irish culture both locally and globally.
You will strengthen our Senior Leadership Team and manage 13 skilled professionals who deliver our culturally sensitive advice and outreach services. These include befriending services for people who are socially isolated, wellbeing and support for the most vulnerable, a lunch club and five social clubs across London. We have seen a huge increase in demand for these services over the past two years and anticipate that this trend will continue. Your strategic oversight and expertise will have an enormous impact on the lives of vulnerable people across the city, including those who are supported by statutory services.
We require a skilled and flexible professional with competence to set strategic objectives, appropriately allocate resources, develop and retain our workforce and manage donors and finances. You will be educated to a minimum of degree level and have robust experience of developing and delivering welfare services, supporting marginalised communities and managing teams of staff. Please note currently we do not operate an out of hours service and the role is generally 9am to 5pm.
In addition, you will be an innovative thinker with knowledge of and interest in the needs of the Irish community in London. Finally, you will be able to articulate a vision of how the charity can meet the current and future needs of the Irish and local communities we serve.
