Head of Financial Planning, Business Partnering and Commercial Morgan Hunt are delighted to be supporting a Central Government Department in their search for a Head of Financial Planning, Business Partnering and Commercial.The department are at the forefront of the governments work are key contemporary issues at the moment, and is working in an ever changing landscape requiring the department to be agile and able to adapt to changing scenarios.This role is on a 2 year fixed-term appointment, with an opportunity for the role to become a permanent position. The position is a Grade 6 role, paying between £57,982 - £70,700 per annum (dependent on experience).Based in Whitehall, this position will require strong coordination with other government departments through a shared service arrangement and working with other teams across the corporate centre and wider department. The Role:+ Lead a team of 6 staff in setting the Department's budget, monitoring spend and forecasting, and engaging with business areas to ensure their resource and funding requirements are met.+ You will also be responsible for overseeing the commercial shared service relationship with another Department, whose work is closely aligned ensuring that the Department's spend meets all commercial requirements and delivers value for money.+ You will be the finance lead in periodic resource reviews, liaising with the business and with HM Treasury to ensure budgets remain appropriate.+ You will be leading on continuous improvements and developments within the team to improve the robustness and accuracy of forecasts.+ You will be responsible for leading the Finance Business Partner team in providing proactive and high quality challenge, advice and guidance on policy proposals and business cases, ensuring financial and workforce planning implications are fully considered; and advising budget holders on actions needed to manage budgets and forecasts, challenging assumptions and helping to manage and exploit risks and opportunities.+ Work in conjunction with the Financial Control team in ensuring end-to-end financial controls are embedded with the business.+ The Department's commercial function is provided through a shared service arrangement with another government Department. You will provide oversight of this function, reviewing and challenging commercial spend through the business case process, and as a member of the Spending and Investment Committee. The Candidate:+ An experienced finance professional, with at least 3 years post qualification experience in a senior finance role.+ Previous experience within Government (either Central or Local Government) would be highly advantageous.+ Need to be able to demonstrate experience in delivering changes and improvements within a financial environment, to help the team meet the continuing challenges within the Department and civil service as a whole.+ Will be required to work flexibly across the finance teams, and more widely across the Corporate Centre.+ Strong leadership and management skills: inspiring and supporting finance professionals to build and maintain a high performing team.+ Strong analytical skills in both identifying emerging issues and developing creative, innovative and practical solutions.+ A willingness to work across teams, directorates and across other government departments as required. This role requires the successful candidate to go through a SC level security clearance process - candidates with a current SC level security clearance would be desirable.
