My client is an awarding-winning Management Consultancy specialising in Business Transformation. They deliver rapid and sustained performance improvement, often where implementing change has proved particularly challenging. My client focus on four key industry sectors; manufacturing/engineering, financial services, telco/media and infrastructure/Capital Projects. They current project portfolio includes projects in aerospace and defence, industrial manufacturing, utilities, telecoms, business services, insurance and telecoms. Their skills span the full spectrum of change approaches, from operational improvement to market analysis, strategy development and full business transformation.
Their greatest strength is in getting things done. Many organisations are good at developing strategy but lack sufficient skills and resources to achieve a successful and timely implementation. My client, help each of their clients to develop a well thought-out plan for action and then work with them to deliver the projected benefits faster than they could on their own. They deliver significant, measurable results and begin each assignment with a rigorous analysis to reveal new insights based on fresh, objective thinking from a different perspective. With a deeper understanding of the issues and an organisation’s culture, they next work with the leadership team to design a solution, backed up by a clear business case. They then execute an implementation programme that includes measures for assessing performance.
What is the role?
We are looking for a director/associate director who can make a significant contribution to the growth of the firm on a consistent basis over the next 3-4 years through the winning and retention of major clients who spend upwards of £0.5 million per annum with individual consulting firms. It is essential that the successful candidate will have a background and experience in Business Development roles within other UK consulting firms, professional services firms or service industries. However, my client see that successful experience with a smaller consulting player will carry more weight than selling for a big brand as the sales process is usually somewhat different in the early stages. This role is 95% sales focused and delivery is managed by the delivery team.
Your will be able to evidence:
- Significant success of winning business for a “small brand” services/consulting organization, ideally in business transformation consulting
- Developing and driving sales campaigns into a marketplace with demonstrable success
- An existing “black book” network of trusted clients with whom you have long standing relationships and evidence of having previously sold services to on multiple occasions
- The “live” nature of the “black book” and the realism of a number of opportunities that could be realized in a 6-9 month timeframe
- An understanding of consulting models and services and how and where my client fit in relation to others
- Familiarity with one of the core sectors - Manufacturing/Engineering, Utilities or Infrastructure sectors; key macro trends, issues and where they typically require consulting support
There will be increasing Marketing support but it should not be expected that leads to follow up will be handed over continually. After an initial sale, continued involvement will be expected to ensure that the delivery team is thinking commercially and accessing key stakeholders in order to win more significant second phases of work, following which the role may widen into account management in order to break into different divisions of the same client group if there are such additional divisions. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is a must and a second European language would be advantageous but not essential. Given this is a sales focused role rather than a delivery role then travel is much less than a normal delivery consulting role.
