My client is an inspiring independent organisation that works internationally to prevent and reduce the impact of violent conflict, and support people in building safer lives. They work collaboratively with governments, multi-lateral organisations, learning institutions and local civil society to encourage and support effective conflict prevention and peacebuilding practice through advocacy, research and policy development and by supporting the practical actions of others. Through their many partners, they engage with conflict-affected individuals and communities to improve their safety and sense of security, address the political causes of violent conflict, and contribute to the attainment of inclusive and sustainable peace and stability.
Over the last five years their programming has grown in scope, scale and resources around a clear vision for their future development. They are spread across 12 country programme offices in East Africa, Middle East, Central Asia and South and South East Asia, and in international advocacy centres in London, Brussels, Beijing, Vienna and Washington. They are funded by a range of donors from government, multilateral and independent sources.
- The interim Head of Funding will lead the fundraising team to maintain their current portfolio and ensure their agreed programme plans are supported through resource mobilisation and related compliance. With your team, you will:
- manage a high performing fundraising team and oversee and strengthen current funding operations, building on their existing portfolio of funding, which includes strategic, statutory, commercial tenders, and trusts and foundations;
- make sure funding streams are consistent with core values and strategic goals;
- support active funding partnerships and donor-relationships, and advance the production of high-quality applications, ensuring effective grant management and contract compliance is taking place;
- oversee the organisation's funding and prospects pipeline and produce regular data and analysis to aid key decision-making.
- You will also be an active member of the organisational management team and help shape ideas and thinking as the organisation embarks on the next phase of its future development and growth, including contributions to emerging shifts in the fundraising strategy.
- Ensure existing funding relationships are positively maintained, and key donor relationships are effectively managed, undertaking high-level representation when required
- Lead on the preparation of major funding proposals
- Track and report on external fundraising trends and help teams match opportunities with strategic priorities
- Proactively manage the organisational funding pipeline of opportunities and rolling submissions, as a tool for planning and decision-making
- Ensure funding perspectives are integrated into programme-level strategic plans
- Support the organisation to realise its income targets for the next financial planning period
- Inspire and manage the fundraising team so that they are motivated, flexible and collaborative in their approach, and are developing professionally
Knowledge, qualifications and experience
- Professional qualification at degree level or equivalent in a related field, with evidence of continuing professional development
- Extensive experience as a leader in a fundraising environment with strong managerial and leadership skills
- Track record of raising both unrestricted and restricted funds, and achieving high value contracts and grants of seven figures
- Track record of successfully supporting, motivating, mentoring and managing colleagues
- Experience of transforming income performance and developing and delivering on fundraising strategies
- A record in confidently developing networks, building alliances and nurturing ideas and relationships with individuals, new collaborators and funders - including avenues for income generation
- Involvement in at least two of the following income streams: commercial bids, institutional/statutory grants, trusts and foundations or high net worth individuals
- Experience of project design and development
- Experience of planning and managing budgets
- A sound knowledge of the UK's civil society/charity regulatory requirements and an understanding of the current international development funding environment is desirable

- Good understanding of communications and an ability to convey the organisation's mission and added value
- Proven ability in programme and project design, and the translation of complex ideas into fundable proposals
- Excellent written and spoken English (another major international language would be an advantage)
