Head of Group Finance - Retail (1 year FTC) - London, United Kingdom,

Our client is a household brand name in retail, with just as strong a presence growing across Asia - and a clear path for future growth. With a global workforce of over 3000, turnover at £500 million and its HQ based in Central London, they occupy a permanent presence on the high street and increasingly online, and with the well-documented challenges in retail, are now looking to not only sustain their presence but grow, especially overseas where strategic business initiatives have proved successful. As a result, there is an opportunity for an experienced and driven Head of Finance to join their European HQ in fabulous offices in Central London, making a significant impact into the future of the business, initially on a 1 year fixed term contract, reporting directly into the CFO.

In essence, this role will provide full leadership to the Financial Accounting, Treasury, Credit Control / Purchase Ledger & Finance Systems teams; the successful candidate will lead the monthly management accounting, Year End Statutory Accounting and Audit processes - ensuring a robust and efficient financial control environment - reporting directly to the CFO.

Core Responsibilities include;

  • Lead and develop a finance team of 30, ensuring all have a personal development plan with SMART objectives and the nous to contribute effectively at a critical time of the business - and sector
  • Fully manage the Year End audit process
  • Oversee the monthly / annual Year End reporting processes and ensure accurate and timely production of management and statutory accounts
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with UK GAAP / FRS102
  • Lead the day-to-day control of cash and working capital management
  • Provide technical accounting leadership to the business
  • Ensure accurate cashflow forecasts are produced in line with company trading and investment plans
  • Keep the Treasury Committee updated and make recommendations re cash management and FX related matters - ensuring that previously agreed policies are adhered to
  • Maintain effective credit management and cash collection procedures are fully in place
  • Assume responsibility to ensure activities completed are fully compliant with company policies and legal requirements
  • Provide continuous improvement of Financial Accounting & Control processes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness
  • Lead finance system development projects to improve operational efficiency and support new business initiatives
  • Support the CFO in business transformation work
  • Provide inspirational leadership - and development - of a high performance finance team, demonstrating highly visible and competent leadership style which is consistent with the demonstrable brand values
  • Build and maintain positive, effective working relationships with peers, divisional Directors, finance team members and external organisations.

Candidate Requirements;

  • ACA qualified (ideally from a Big 4 Accountancy firm) with a minimum of 5 years PQE - preferably from a UK multi-site retail environment in a similar capacity
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS102) and IFRS in a Head of Finance / Financial Controller / Finance Director capacity
  • Proven experience at senior level in Financial Accounting and Control
  • Demonstrable line management experience of managing and developing finance teams of all levels, from AP / AR to fully qualified Accountants, in a previous or current role - from a retail environment, either High Street or Online / Ecommerce
  • A proven leader of finance with the gravitas and influencing skills - and experience in retail - to face challenges with aplomb, deal with multiple challenges simultaneously and possess the zeal and drive to take full ownership of this role
  • Possess strong commercial acumen and financial analysis skills, with the ability to work through problems logically - and deliver solutions
  • Preferably knowledge of CODA and be systems literate
  • In terms of retail experience, possess international retail and multi-channel experience to hit the ground running
  • As this role is a 1 year fixed term contract (with the possibility of being extended further), be available on a maximum of 1 month's notice
