Job objectives and responsibilities

  • To support the programming & delivery of construction projects (£50K - £10M) across the UK to existing key clients.
  • The Project Planner will be responsible for developing and implementing the project programme for tenders and construction phases
  • Conducts critical path analysis and provides earned value reporting to accurately measure progress and efficiency to support the business in its operational and financial forecasting.
  • Be a key player in both the pre-construction and post construction phases of new build contracts, construction and M&E installation in live manufacturing envoirnments, office refurbishments and civil engineering works. Working across all business functions including: Business Development, Design and Construction.
  • Have a commercial understanding of project delivery, advising and implementing cost savings at all times, and represent the company in a professional and proactive manner in all dealings with those associated with, and affected by, the building.
  • To manage and lead Constriction Projects on-site, liaising with the Senior Management team, client, sub contractors and other trades, co-ordinating all aspects of the works so that the building project is completed in line with the requirements, within budget and on time.

Main duties

  • Development of tender programmes, covering all elements of the contract from detailed design to completion.
  • Maintain and update programmes to reflect actual and forecast positions with progress / resource / cost data.
  • Develop the Project / Programme using network and critical path analysis techniques. Liaising with external contractors and suppliers to organise the phases of the construction development.
  • Interface with design, manufacturing and construction delivery teams and other third parties in planning and project controls issues.
  • Progress of programmes with site teams and highlight areas of concern and introduce mitigation measures
  • Regular site visits so as to assist site teams with planning matters
  • Liaison with site teams regarding input into programme development
  • Collation of progress information and production of progress reporting
  • Update Programme following Change Control procedure.
  • Schedule resource and cost information into programmes to enable earned value management.
  • Participate in bid and contract reviews with regards to programme management and planning.
  • Working with the department heads and construction delivery teams to find ways to improve project programmes.
  • Baseline and analyse ongoing project progress and performance, assessing time related risks and the impact to programme.
  • Liaising with customers, internal department heads, and supply chain to organise, integrate and schedule phases of the construction plan.
  • Presenting information for internal meetings on the project, including baseline programmes, earned value analysis reports where required
  • Ensure that the programme content is functionally compliant with the planning procedures and guidance
  • Identify planning scopes, major constraints and contract requirements
  • Identify major quantities and factors affecting the programme
  • Establish and agree with Operations construction outputs and agree working hours with the Commercial Lead
  • Establish and agree with Operations and Bid Team key methods of construction, sequencing, installation and commissioning

Person Specification

  • Have operational experience together with previous significant experience of planning services in small, medium and large sized projects within the construction industry
  • Have an understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications
  • Have an understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring
  • Relevant construction or engineering degree desirable
  • Outgoing personality with good stakeholder management skills
  • Extensive experience in the construction industry including experience in the planning and programming of works on manufacturing sites
  • Experienced operator of Microsoft Project software
  • A good understanding of new build design, procurement, production and commissioning processes
  • Experience in JCT & NEC forms of Contract especially Option C and the production of activity schedules
  • Must have the nature to repressent Mitie with professionalism, integrity and honesty at all times.
  • Substantial experience of the full life cycle of a number of Construction projects, involving the project management of the project and the staff / operatives working on it.
  • Pro-active good at planning ahead as far as possible as the project progresses, checking back to plans/programmes regularly
  • Strong sense of achievement; able to drive projects forward, expects good standards of work and able to overcome barriers/ solve problems.
